Let \(\mathcal{L}\) be a nonempty class of metrizable ANR-compacta. The notation \(X_1*\dots*X_n\) will denote the join of the spaces \(X_1,\dots X_n\). One assigns a dimension for a space \(X\) (normal and T\(_1\) in this paper) denoted \(\mathcal{L}\)-dim \(X\) using the following. {\parindent6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] \(\mathcal{L}\)-dim\(X=-1\Leftrightarrow X=\emptyset\). \item[(2)] If \(X\neq\emptyset\) and \(n\in\{0\}\cup\mathbb{N}\), then put \(\mathcal{L}\)-dim\(X\leq n\) if \(L_1*\dots*L_{n+1}\in\mathrm{AE}(X)\) for any \(L_1,\dots,L_{n+1}\in\mathcal{L}\). \item[(3)] \(\mathcal{L}\)-dim\(X=\infty\) if \(X\neq\emptyset\) and \(\mathcal{L}\)-dim\(X\leq n\) is false for all \(n\in\{0\}\cup\mathbb{N}\). \end{itemize}} In case \(\mathcal{L}=\{L\}\), then one writes \(\mathcal{L}\)-dim\(X=L\)-dim\(X\). The main results of the current paper are as follows. Let \(L\) be a metrizable ANR-compactum. {\parindent6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(a)] If \(L*L\) is not contractible, then for every \(n\geq0\), there is a cube \(I^m\) with \(L\)-dim \(I^m=n\). \item[(b)] If \(L\) is simply connected and \(f:X\to Y\) is an acyclic mapping from a finite-dimensional compact Hausdorff space \(X\) onto a finite-dimensional space \(Y\), then \(L\)-dim \(Y\leq L\)-dim \(X\). \item[(c)] If \(L\) is simply connected and \(L*L\) is not contractible, then for every \(n\geq 2\), there exists a compact Hausdorff space \(Z_n^L\) such that \(L\)-dim \(Z_n^L=n\), and for any closed \(F\subset Z_n^L\) either \(L\)-dim \(F\leq0\) or \(L\)-dim \(F=n\). \end{itemize}} One might compare the work in this paper with that in [\textit{V. V. Fedorchuk}, Mat. Vesn. 61, No.~1, 25--52 (2009; Zbl 1199.54186)].
