The author constructs, given an infinite cardinal~\(\tau\) and a natural number~\(n\), a compact subspace~\(U_{n,\tau}\) of the Tychonoff cube~\(I^\tau\) that is universal for the family of \(n\)-dimensional subspaces of~\(I^\tau\) in a very strong sense: if \(X\) is \(n\)-dimensional then there is an embedding \(f:X\to U_{n,\tau}\) such that \(f[X\cap\Sigma]\subseteq U_{n,\tau}\cap\Sigma\), where \(\Sigma\) is the \(\Sigma\)-product with base point~\(\mathbf0\). The same can be achieved, simultaneously, for the \(\sigma\)-product.
