      The authors consider the functional equation \[ r\mu f\left(\frac{a+b}{r}\right)+r\mu f\left(\frac{a-b}{r}\right)=2f(\mu a)-f(cc^*c)+f(c)c^*c+cf(c)^*c+cc^*f(c), \tag{\(*\)} \] where \(f:\mathcal A \to \mathcal A\), \(\mathcal A\) is a \(J^*\)--algebra, \(a, b, c \in \mathcal A\), \(\mu \in \mathbb T\), \(r \in (1,\infty)\). By using the direct method and the fixed point method thay prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of (\(*\)). Moreover, by adding the condition that \(f(sa)=sf(a)\) for all \(a \in \mathcal A\) and some \(s \in (1,\infty)\), they prove the superstability of (\(*\)).
