The author considers the following question. Let \(V\) be a metrizable non-normable locally convex space and let \(W\) be a metrizable locally convex space. Determine conditions to ensure that there are large subspaces of the space \(CL(V,W)\) of continuous linear operators from \(V\) into \(W\) which can be endowed with a metrizable locally convex topology. He introduces first what he calls palette topologies on \(CL(V,W)\), which are related to topologies of uniform convergence on families of bounded sets in \(V\), and in the final section he analyses the subset of \(CL(V,W)\) formed by all tame linear maps.
