It is known that continuous functions of several variables can be represented by a superposition of continuous functions of two variables (see A. N. Kolmogorov 1956-57 and V. I. Arnold 1957). On the other hand, under certain smothness conditions, not every function of \(n+1\) variables can be represented as a superposition of functions of \(n\) variables (see A. G. Vitushkin 1954-55). In 1999, S. S. Marchenkov considered \(n\)-ary continuous functions on a Baire space and, using a continuity modulus, identified those functions that cannot generate all \((n+1)\)-ary continuous functions by compositions and those that can. In the present paper, the authors consider less restricted conditions on the modulus of continuity \(\varphi\) and yet superpositions of \(n\)-ary functions with modulus of continuity \(\varphi\) do not exhaust all \((n+1)\)-ary functions with modulus of continuity \(\phi\) for every \(n\).
