The authors classify the homogeneous polynomials in three variables whose toric polar linear system defines a Cremona transformation, i.e. such polynomials \(F(x,y,z)\) that the map \[ \mathbb P^2\ni [x:y:z]\dashrightarrow [x\frac{\partial}{\partial x}F:y\frac{\partial}{\partial y}F:z\frac{\partial}{\partial z}F]\in\mathbb P^2 \] is birational. As an application, using the results of \textit{L. García-Puente} and \textit{F. Sottile} [Adv. Comput. Math. (to appear)], they present a classification of toric surface patches possessing linear precision, that are used in geometric modeling. For the precise definitions see the first section - especially the definition of linear precision is rather restrictive. Not all classified polynomials defining a Cremona transformation arise in geometric modeling. However the authors apart from tensor product patches and Bézier triangles find a large, more general class of so called ``trapezoidal patches''. These have not been used in their full generality in geometric modeling so far.
