The purpose of this paper is to consider \(b\)-additive functions \(f\) in number systems, where \(b\) is an algebraic integer over \(\mathbb Z\). In particular, let \(p\) be a polynomial, then it is shown that the asymptotic distribution of \(f(\lfloor{p(z)\rfloor})\), where \(\lfloor{\cdot\rfloor}\) denotes the integer part with respect to base \(b\), when \(z\) runs through the elements of the ring \(\mathbb Z[b]\) is the normal law. This is a generalization of results of \textit{N. L. Bassily} and \textit{I. Kátai} (for the integer case) [Acta Math. Hung. 68, No. 4, 353--361 (1995; Zbl 0832.11035)] and of \textit{B. Gittenberger} and \textit{J. M. Thurswaldner} (for the Gaussian integers) [J. Number Theory 84, No. 2, 317--341 (2000; Zbl 0989.11040)].
