The authors present a generalization of monotone operator theory in the framework of abstract convexity. The paper analyzes whether some monotonicity properties can be extended from the classical case to the abstract setting. A necessary and sufficient condition for maximality of abstract monotone operators which can be represented by abstract convex functions is also given.
