A multiplicative product of distributions and a class of ordinary differential equations with distributional coefficients (Q2272042)

A new distributional product is constructed in the vector space of piecewise smooth functions and all their distributional derivatives. The new product is associative, satisfies the Leibniz rule and reproduces the usual product of functions for regular distributions. With this new product the space under consideration becomes a differential associative algebra of generalised functions. With the help of this product an ordinary linear differential equation with general solution can be transformed into an ordinary linear differential equation where the solution is confined to a prescribed interval.
