The semi-Lagrangian (SISL) algorithm is a very popular method in many applications, for example physical plasma, weather prediction problems etc. In this paper, the authors study the semi-Lagrangian (SISL) finite difference methods applied to the one-dimensional Burgers' equation with small diffusion. By the backward error analysis, the authors provide the errors analysis on diffusive, dispersive and numerical solutions when the uniform spatial mesh is used. These theoretical results are consistent with the numerical performances. The modified equation approach helps in giving a clear picture to understand the simulation results.
