The main result states that a map \(\phi\) from a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) onto a Banach algebra \(B\) is an isomorphism if and only if \(\phi\) is continuous at \(1\) and satisfies \(\sigma\big(\prod_{i=1}^m \phi(x_i)\big) = \sigma \big(\prod_{i=1}^m x_i\big)\) for all \(x_i\in A\), \(m=1,2,3\) (here, \(\sigma(x)\) stands for the spectrum of \(x\)).
