On the asymptotic stability for nonlinear oscillators with time-dependent damping (Q2274325)

In this paper, the author considers the differential equation \[ \ddot x+h(t,x,\dot x)\dot x+f(x)=0, \] where \(x\in\mathbb{R}\), \(xf(x)\ge0\), \(t\in[0,+\infty)\). The function \(h(t,x,\dot x)\) is supposed to satisfy the estimate \[ a(t)|\dot x|^{\alpha}w(x,\dot x)\le h(t,x,\dot x)\le b(t)W(x,\dot x), \] where \(a(t)\) and \(b(t)\) are piecewise continuous, \(\alpha\) is a nonnegative real number; \(w(x,y)>0\) for all \(x, y\). Sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium \(x=0\), \(\dot x=0\) are obtained.
