This paper is concerned with Bousfield localization in the context of equivariant stable homotopy theory. In ordinary stable homotopy theory, one of the nice features of Bousfield localization is that it preserves commutative ring objects, but in the equivariant context there are examples in which this additional structure is not preserved. The author has investigated sufficient conditions for when this preservation does occur in previous work with \textit{M. J. Hopkins} [``Equivariant symmetric monoidal structures'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1610.03114}] and with \textit{A. J. Blumberg} [Tunis. J. Math. 2, No. 2, 237--286 (2020; Zbl 1427.55008)]. In this paper, the author asks when Bousfield localization preserves further algebraic structure present in the equivariant context, such as norms. In establishing the main results and giving examples, this paper brings together many different themes of much current interest. For example, the framework of \(N_\infty\)-operads, introduced by the author and Blumberg for understanding the kinds of algebraic structure being used here, plays a key role. Much of the motivation for such structures originated in the solution of the Kervaire invariant one problem, and examples arising from that context are featured here. The later sections also make important connections with work of \textit{P. Balmer} and \textit{B. Sanders} [Invent. Math. 208, No. 1, 283--326 (2017; Zbl 1373.18016)], and of Barthel, Hausmann, Naumann, Nikolaus, Noel, and Stapleton [\textit{T. Barthel} et al., Invent. Math. 216, No. 1, 215--240 (2019; Zbl 1417.55016)], on the characterization of the Balmer spectrum of the category of finite \(G\)-spectra.
