\textit{J. J. Kohn} [Ann. Math. (2) 162, No. 2, 943--986 (2005; Zbl 1107.35044)] proved the \(C^\infty\) hypoellipticity of some model \(P\) having the form of sum of squares of complex vector fields and with symplectic characteristics. More precisely, \(P= LL^*+ L^* x^{2k}L\), where \(L= D_x+ ix^{q-1} D_t\) and \(q\in\mathbb{N}\), \(k\in\mathbb{N}\), \(q\) being even. In the Appendix to the same paper Derridj and Tartakoff proved that \(P\) is also analytic hypoelliptic. G. Chinni gives here an alternate proof of the same results based on F.B.I. transform techniques and some consideraitons of Sjöstrand. The advantage of that approach is that the same proof works simultaneously both in \(C^\infty\) and analytic categories.
