By introducing a new scalar quantity and using the convergence results of Hamilton and Brendle for the Ricci flow and the Lawson-Simons formula for the nonexistence of stable currents, the authors give an optimal differentiable sphere theorem for complete manifolds and generalize a Brendle-Schoen type differentiable sphere theorem.
