The asymptotic behaviour of a degenerate quasilinear parabolic equation involving the weighted, i.e., \((\,\text{div}(\sigma(x) |\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)\, )\) \(p\)-Laplacian operator for \(p \geq 2\), in bounded domains \(\Omega\) of \({\mathbb R}^{n}\), is studied. The degeneracy of the operator comes from the fact that \(\sigma\) may vanish in at most a finite number of points. To aleviate these difficulties, weighted energy spaces are used, involving the function \(\sigma\), for which some compact embedding results are proved. Using compactness and monotonicity arguments, global existence results are proved. Then it is shown that a global attractors exists for the semigroup generated by the problem in various phase space settings. The difficulty of the problem depends on the choice of phase space and the methods vary accordingly (from standard compactness arguments to more involved arguments using asymptotic a priori estimates).
