The book by Röss contains the mathematical foundations usually taught to physicists in an informal way (chapters on numbers, sequences and series, functions, complex analysis, vectors, ordinary and partial differential equations). The main reason for the book is to provide an experimental access to many concepts by offering Java simulations which - among others - allow to change parameters, insert functions, or to visualize concepts from complex analysis. The author wants to provide ``colleagues in physics and mathematics with a thesaurus of simulations for the development of their own curricula''. Students are enabled to deepen their understanding by experimenting with the concepts. The book is also available as an eBook where the PDF text is directly linked to simulation files.
