Approximation theory and optimization problems (Q2276700)

This article is the extended text of a report read by the author at a meeting of the Kievs Mathematical Society. In the first part, a short historical survey of the development of the approximation theory of functions is presented. In the second part, the basic aspects of the contemporary state and some tendencies of the further development of the approximation theory are discussed.
