The author describes a fully explicit numerical method for solving the so-called Gurtin-MacCamy nonlinear age-dependent population dynamics model. It is based on an integration along the characteristic lines of the differential operator followed by an approximation of the exponential function and the use of the mid-point method for evaluating various integrals. Under suitable assumptions concerning the birth and death processes, it is proved that it is a first order scheme.
