    For a space curve X let \(C_ X:\;\{0,1,2\}\times {\mathbb{Z}}\to {\mathbb{Z}}\) be its cohomology function given by \(C_ X(i,n)=h^ i{\mathcal I}_ X(n)\). We describe all possible functions \(C_ X(2,): {\mathbb{Z}}\to {\mathbb{Z}}\) for curves X with the property \(h^ 1{\mathcal I}_ X(n)\cdot h^ 2{\mathcal I}_ X(n)=0\) for all \(n\in {\mathbb{Z}}\). We also obtain necessary conditions on \(C_ X(2,)\) for X to be smooth and connected. Furthermore we describe all possible functions \(C_ X(0,)\) where X is a smooth connected maximal rank curve with \(e_ X\geq s_ X-3\). Maximal rank is the property \(h^ 0{\mathcal I}_ X(n)\cdot h^ 1{\mathcal I}_ X(n)=0\) for all \(n\in {\mathbb{Z}}\).
