The paper presents some results regarding the directional derivative of the optimal value function of a finite-dimensional optimization problem with parameters (vector p). These results discuss the existence and the value of the directional derivative of the value function V(p) when the problem is stable with respect to the directional derivatives. The results have already been published elsewhere [the authors, Math. Oper. Res. 13, No.4, 629-649 (1988; Zbl 0665.90086); and the second author in: Nonsmooth optimization and related topics, Proc. 4th Course Int. Sch. Math., Erice/Italy 1988, Ettore Majorana Int. Sci. Ser., Phys. Sci. 43, 167-183 (1989)] but the proofs given here are new and more elementary than the previous ones. First, the case when the problem is linear in p is discussed, which is later generalized for the case of problems with nonlinearity in the parameters.
