The present author is dealing with the value distribution of differential polynomials, i.e., expressions of the form \[ Q[f]=\sum_{j}a_ j(z)f^{j_ 0}(f')^{j_ 1}...(f^{(k)})^{j_ k} \] (finite sums; \(j=(j_ 0,...,j_ k)\), \(a_ j\) small compared with f). The degree and weight of Q are defined to be the maximum of the terms \((j_ 0+j_ 1+...+j_ k)\) and \(j_ 0+2j_ 1+...+(k+1)j_ k\), respectively. A series of results is proven, some of which improve results of earlier authors. Examples show that some of the new results are best possible. We quote Theorem 3. If \(F=f^ n-f'-a\) (n\(\geq 2\), \(a\in {\mathbb{C}})\), then \[ (n- 1)T(r,f)\leq \bar N(r,1/f)+\bar N(r,1/F)+2\bar N(r,f)+S(r,f). \] If \(n=4\), \(a=1\), \(f(z)=(1+e^{4z})/(1-e^{4z})\), then equality holds. For the proofs the usual `Clunie-technique' is used.
