Based on the definition of an interval integral operator, criteria are derived which guarantee the existence of an interval function \(U(t)=[\underline{U}(t),\bar U(t)]\) such that \(\underline{U}(t)\), \(\bar U(t)\) are extremal solutions for a given initial value problem or a given boundary value problem. Discontinuities of the right-hand side in the differential equation \(u'=f(t,u)\) are as well allowed as periodic boundary conditions.
