The paper under review is inspired by the following conjecture due to Beltrametti and Sommesse. Conjecture. Let \((X,L)\) be an \(n\)-dimensional polarized smooth complex projective variety with \(n\geq 3\). Assume that \(K_{X} + (n-1)L\) is nef, then \(h^{0}(K_{X}+(n-1)L)>0\). The main result of the paper gives us an affirmative answer to a certain variation on the above conjecture. Main Result. Let \((X,L)\) be a polarized smooth complex projective \(5\)-fold and assume that \(K_{X}+4L\) is nef, then \(h^{0}(K_{X}+2L) >0\) or \(h^{0}(K_{X}+4L) > 0\). As a corollary, the author shows that if \((X,L)\) is a smooth complex projective \(5\)-fold with \(K_{X}+4L\) nef and \(h^{0}(2L)>0\), then \(h^{0}(K_{X}+4L) > 0\). Moreover, under the same assumption on the pair \((X,L)\) with \(K_{X}+4L\) nef and \(h^{0}(-K_{X}) > 0\) the author proves that \(h^{0}(K_{X}+4L) > 0\).
