This paper proves a formula for the colored Jones Polynomial of double twist knots \(K_{(-m,-p)}\) and \(K_{(-m,p)}\), using a result of \textit{T. Takata} [Kyungpook Math. J. 48, No. 2, 255--280 (2008; Zbl 1152.57016)], where the latter case leads to new families of \(q\)-hypergeometric series generalizing the Kontsevich-Zagier series. These generalized series are conjectured to be quantum modular forms. The paper also uses Bailey pairs and formulas of Walsh to find Habiro-type expansions for the colored Jones polynomial. Formulas for the usual \(N\)th colored Jones polynomials have been proved for several families of knots, these have played a prominent role in the study of quantum topology and modular forms. In the present paper attention is turned to double twist knots where one region has an odd number of half-twists. Three theorems are proved giving expressions for the \(N\)th colored Jones Polynomial \(J_N(\cdot)\) of double twist knots in certain cases. In Section 2 another theorem together with several Lemmas is proved. A detailed full proof of Theorems 1.1,1.2 and 1.3 is presented in a lengthy computation. Concluding remarks are given in Section 6 explaining results and proposing subjects for future studies. Open questions for further analysis are mentioned at the end. The paper ends with acknowledgements and 35 references.
