In line with several results ranging from operator algebras to ring theory, this paper discusses automatic additivity of maps satisfying particular multiplicative properties, thereby outlining an entangling between the multiplicative and additive structures. The structures under scrutiny are JB-algebras and quadratic maps between them: for JB-algebras \(A\) and \(B\), a map \(\phi\colon A\to B\) is said to be \emph{quadratic} if, for all \(a,b\in A\), \[ \phi(U_a(b))=U_{\phi(a)}(\phi(b)).\tag{1}\] Here, given \(x, y, z \) in a JB-algebra, \(U_{x,z}\) denotes the operator defined on the JB-algebra by \[ U_{x,z}(y)=(x\circ y)\circ z+ (z\circ y)\circ x - (x\circ y)\circ z, \] where \(\circ\) denotes the product on \(A\). More to the point, the main result states that a continuous bijective piecewise linear quadratic map between unital JB-albegras is linear. A map is called \emph{piecewise linear} if it is homogeneous and \[ \phi(a+b)=\phi(a)+\phi(b), \] whenever \(a\) operator commutes with \(b\), i.e., \(a\circ (b\circ c)=(a\circ b)\circ c\), for all \(c\in A\). This final theorem requires proving several preparatory results of which the following is outlined: a continuous map \(\psi\) between the sets of positive invertible elements of \(A\) and \(B\) satisfying (1) for these elements is such that \[ \psi(a)=e^{F(\log a)}, \] for some bounded linear map \(F\colon A\to B\) and all invertible positive elements \(a\) in \(A\).
