This paper considers equations of the forms \(\partial_t^2u-\Delta u=G(u,u_t)\) with \(G=|u|^p\), \(G=|\partial_tu|^p\) and \(G=|u|^p+|\partial_tu|^p\), and systems of the form \(\partial_t^2u-\Delta u=a_{11}|v|^{p_{11}}+a_{12}|\partial_tv|^{p_{12}}\), \(\partial_t^2v-\Delta v=a_{21}|u|^{p_{21}}+a_{22}|\partial_tu|^{p_{22}}\), where the space variable lies in \(\mathbb{R}^N\). Data are smooth and compactly supported, the parameter \(\varepsilon\) is small, and the integrals of the initial values of \(u_t\) and \(v_t\) are assumed to be positive. The paper gives estimates of the time of the occurrence of the first singularity, in a given reference frame (this time is not a Lorentz invariant). It is motivated by a paper by \textit{M. Ikeda} and \textit{M. Sobajima} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 182, 57--74 (2019; Zbl 1411.35174)], whose method, suitably adapted, enables the authors to drop pointwise positivity conditions, and to obtain simpler results of known results as well as some new ones.
