Suppose \(B\) is an Artin-Schelter (AS) regular algebra and \(A\) is an \(\mathbb{N}\)-graded algebra with regular normal element \(h \in A\) such that \(A/(h) \cong B\). Then \(A\) is again AS regular. See, for example, the work of \textit{A. Chirvasitu} et al. which studies this phenomenon in detail [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 372, No. 6, 3947--3983 (2019; Zbl 1428.14007)]. In this case we say \(A\) is a \textit{normal extension} of \(B\). The skew Calabi-Yau (CY) condition generalizes the AS regularity condition. Due to a result of \textit{M. Reyes} et al.w, an algebra is connected (\(\mathbb{N}\)-)graded locally finite skew CY algebras if and only if it is AS regular [Adv. Math. 264, 308--354 (2014; Zbl 1336.16011)]. However, there are many interesting examples of skew CY algebras which are not connected graded. For example, preprojective algebras on extended Dynkin quivers are skew CY. The present paper considers the normal extension problem in the context of graded skew CY algebras. In addition to proving that the skew CY property passes up to normal extensions, the authors provide formulas for the Gorenstein parameter and Nakyama automorphism of \(A\) in terms of \(B\). These results are useful in the ongoing program of classifying graded skew CY algebras.
