Let \(E\) denote a quadratic field extension of a local field \(F\) of characteristic zero. Denote by \(r\) the twisted tensor representation of the Langlands dual group of \(\operatorname{R}_{E/F}\operatorname{GL}(2)\), viewed as \((\operatorname{GL}(2,\mathbb C)\times\operatorname{GL}(2,\mathbb C)) \rtimes\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\). This was introduced (for \(\operatorname{GL}(n)\)) by the reviewer in [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 116, No. 3, 295--313 (1988; Zbl 0674.10026)], and named Asai representation in the article under review. Here \(\sigma\in\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\) acts by permutation if \(\sigma|E\not=1\). The target of \(r\) is \(\operatorname{GL}(\mathbb{C}^2\otimes\mathbb{C}^2)\times\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\), and \(r(x,y,\sigma)\) is \((x\otimes y,\sigma)\) if \(\sigma|E=1\), \((y\otimes x,\sigma)\) if \(\sigma|E\not=1\). Now let \(\pi\) and \(\tau\) be irreducible admissible representations of \(\operatorname{GL}(2,E)\) and \(\operatorname{GL}(n,F)\). Let \(\phi_\pi:W'_F\to(\operatorname{GL}(2,\mathbb C)\times\operatorname{GL}(2,\mathbb C)) \rtimes\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\) and \(\phi_\tau:W'_F\to\operatorname{GL}(n,\mathbb C) \rtimes\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\) be the parameters associated to \(\pi\) and \(\tau\) by the local Langlands correspondence. Here \(W'_F\) is the Weil-Deligne group. Let \((r\circ\phi_\pi)\otimes\phi_\tau:W'_F\to\operatorname{GL}(4n,\mathbb C) \rtimes\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\) be the parameter defined by the tensor representation \(\operatorname{GL}(\mathbb C^2\otimes\mathbb C^2)\times \operatorname{GL}(n,\mathbb C) \to\operatorname{GL}(4n,\mathbb C)\). The \(L\)- and \(\varepsilon\)-factors of this are compared with \(L\)- and \(\varepsilon\)-factors defined by local zeta integrals, in analogy with the known case of \(E=F\oplus F\) split. This is done in the Archimedean and non-Archimedean cases.
