Let \(G\) be a locally compact group and \(B(G)\) be the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra of \(G\). A bounded linear operator \(\Phi\) from \(B(G)\) into \(L^2(G)\) is called a multiplier if \(\Phi\) commutes with the translations operators, i.e., for every \(s\in G\) and every \(u\in B(G)\), the equation \(\Phi(L_su)=L_s(\Phi u)\) is satisfied. This paper is mainly devoted to study the connection between the existence of nonzero multipliers on \(B(G)\) and the existence of square-integrable representations, namely, representations with square-integrable coefficients. The author proves that for a locally compact group \(G\), admitting a continuous unitary representation whose coefficients are all square-integrable, the existence is guarantied of a nonzero multiplier from \(B(G)\) into \(L^2(G)\). He also proves that if such a multiplier is weak*-continuous, then \(L^2(G)\) admits a minimal left invariant subspace. It is shown that if \(G\) is a non-compact locally compact group and \(\Phi:B(G)\rightarrow L^2(G)\) is a multiplier, then \(\Phi(u)=0,\) for every element \(u\in B(G)\) which is also almost periodic. Some other results about the existence of invariant operators concerning \(C^*(G)^{**}\), the enveloping von Neumann algebra of \(G\), are included. Several interesting questions are asked in the final section.
