One of the fundamental questions in Riemannian geometry is the study of properties of Riemannian manifolds under global curvature conditions, using the geometric comparison theorems. The notions of sectional curvature lower bounds and Ricci curvature lower bounds were already introduced in previous papers. The present paper develops the notion of scalar curvature lower bounds. In the case of comparison theorems for sectional curvature, triangles play the crucial role. In comparison theorems for scalar curvature, they are replaced by polyhedra. In the present paper, a comparison theorem for polyhedra in \(3\)-dimensional manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature is established. It confirms the dihedral rigidity conjecture formulated by Gromov.
