Let \(\hbox{Lip}(X,d)\) be the Banach space of all scalar-valued Lipschitz functions \(f\) on a compact metric space \((X,d)\) endowed with the norm \(\|f\|=\hbox{max}\{\|f\|_{\infty}, L_{(X,d)}(f)\}\), where \(L_{(X,d)}(f)\) is the Lipschitz constant of \(f\) on \((X,d)\). Recall that linear Lipschitz isometries between \(\hbox{Lip}(X,d)\)-spaces have been characterized in [\textit{A. Jiménez-Vargas} and \textit{M. Villegas-Vallecillos}, Houston J. Math. 34, No. 4, 1165--1184 (2008; Zbl 1169.46004)]. In this paper, the authors introduce the concept of norm-attaining unit functions in \(\hbox{Lip}(X,d)\)-spaces and apply this for characterizing into and onto linear Lipschitz isometries \(T\) from \(\hbox{Lip}(X,d)\) to \(\hbox{Lip}(Y, \rho)\). As a consequence, they generalize a result of the above mentioned paper in the surjectivity case of \(T\) by omitting a condition for \(T 1_{X}\) on \(Y\).
