The paper under review shows that any $m$-isometric tuple of commuting algebraic operators on a Hilbert space can be decomposed as a sum of a spherical isometry and a commuting nilpotent tuple. Recall that a bounded linear operator $T$ is algebraic if there exist complex constants $c_0, c_1, \dots, c_l$ such that $c_0I + c_1 T + \dots + c_l T^l =0$, and a commuting $d$-tuple $T$ on $\mathcal H$ is an $m$-isometry if $\sum_{n=0}^m (-1)^{n} \binom{m}{n} Q^{n}_T(I)=0$, where $Q_T(X)=\sum_{j=1}^d T^*_jXT_j$ is defined for every bounded linear operator $X$ on $\mathcal H$. In particular, the author answers the following question posed in [\textit{T. Bermúdez} et al., Linear Algebra Appl. 540, 95--111 (2018; Zbl 1489.47010)] affirmatively: Let $T$ be an $(A,m)$-isometry on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. Is it possible to write $T$ as a sum of an $A$-isometry and a commuting nilpotent operator? Another interesting result proved in this paper is a theorem of Richter-Sundberg (cf. [\textit{S. Richter} and \textit{C. Sundberg}, ``A model for two-isometric operator tuples with finite defect'', Slides from a talk at the Department of Mathematics, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2011), \url{https://www.math.utk.edu/~richter/talk/Cornell_Sept_2011}]) classifying all $2$-isometric tuples on finite-dimensional spaces.
