The main result of the paper under review establishes that the averages (that is, invariants defined on the \(\ell^1\) cohomology of Lie groups) vanish in the abstract setting of abelian and Heisenberg groups. In particular, this result allows to show that the \(\ell^1\) cohomology vanishes in the above mentioned cases. A key role in the proofs consists in understanding the behaviour of wedge products in Rumin's complex on Heisenberg groups. Some technical details include symmetric integration by parts and linear growth primitives of left-invariant forms.
