In the work under review, asymptotic behaviour of a certain algebraic property of the class group of an imaginary quadratic number field is studied. For a more precise statement, we let \(d \in\mathbb{Z}_{<0}\) and \[ n_{g}(x) := \{ d \in\mathbb{Z} \,|\, x < d <0,\, d \mbox{ square-free, and there exists } I \in\mathrm{Cl}(d)\mbox{ with }\mathrm{ord}(I) = g \}; \] where \(\mathrm{Cl}(d)\) denotes the class group of the number field \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d})\). We fix two integers \(A\) and \(B>1\) so that \(\gcd(A,B)\) is square-free. We define \[ N_{g}(A,B,x) := \#\{ d \in n_{g}(x) \,|\, d \equiv A \pmod B \} \] Subject to some mild conditions on the pair \((A,B)\) and \(g\) the author proves that for any \(\varepsilon>0\), \(N_{g}(A,B,x) \gg x^{{1}/{2} + \varepsilon_{g} - \varepsilon }\); where \(\varepsilon_g\) stands for \(\frac{2}{g}\) if \(g \equiv 0 \pmod 4\) and \(\frac{3}{g+2}\) if \(g \equiv 2 \pmod 4\). The proof of the statements follow closely the arguments of \textit{K. Soundararajan} as presented in [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 61, No. 3, 681--690 (2000; Zbl 1018.11054)]. A result in the same vein have also been obtained by \textit{P. Pollack} [Proc. Japan Acad., Ser. A 92, No. 8, 96--99 (2016; Zbl 1411.11110)]. For an even integer \(g\), the pair \((A,B)\) is said to be \(g\)-special if the diophantine equation \(2m^{g/2} - t^{2} = A\) has a solution in \((\mathbb{Z}/B\mathbb{Z})^{2}\) with the pair \(t\) and \(B\) and the pair \(m\) and \( 2t\) being relatively prime. For and \(d<0\) square-free, we let \(E_{d}\) denote the twist of \(E\) with \(d\). That is, if \(E\) is the elliptic curve given by the equation \(y^{2} = x^{3} + ax + b\) then \(E_{d}\) be the elliptic curve with equation \(dy^{2} = x^{3} + ax + b \) so that \(E\) and \(E_{d}\) are isomorphic over \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d})\)(not over \(\mathbb{Q}\)). The author uses the mentioned result together with a result of \textit{G. Frey} [Can. J. Math. 40, No. 3, 649--665 (1989; Zbl 0646.14024)], to obtain asymptotics (subject to some extra conditions) concerning the number of \(d\)'s up to \(x\) so that the rank of the \(p\)-Selmer group of quadratic twists of elliptic curves is even for primes \(p = 3,5\) and \(7\).
