The authors present a spectral projection method for the numerical solution of weakly singular Volterra equations of the second kind in spaces of continuous functions. The method is a spectral Galerkin method based on Jacobi polynomials. An error analysis is proved both for the (untypical) case of a smooth solution and for the more realistic case where the solution's derivative has a singularity at the origin. The approach is then extended to an iterated Galerkin method. Convergence properties are discussed as well. The error bounds are given in the uniform norm as well as in the \(L_2\) norm. In addition, superconvergence properties are investigated.
