New definitions of the generalized Stirling numbers (Q2297351)

The present paper is motivated by the work of \textit{L. C. Hsu} and the reviewer [Adv. Appl. Math. 20, No. 3, 366--384 (1998; Zbl 0913.05006)]. The author introduces several new combinatorial and algebraic definitions for the generalized Stirling numbers. He also presents some related work on \(r\)-Whitney numbers. There is an extensive bibliography with 34 references. Numerous references in regard to recent developments are also well presented. This is a very well-written paper which represents a very thorough and comprehensive piece of work that will add considerably to the literature in the area of Stirling numbers.
