The present article is devoted to \((\delta;\sigma)\)-sets on the real line \(\mathbb R\). The notions of \(\delta\)-discretized set and of a \((\delta;\sigma)\)-set are given. Some properties of the last-mentioned set are described by the author. It is noted that \((\delta;\sigma)\)-set can be considered as the discrete approximation of a set in \(\mathbb R\) at scale \(\delta\) (here \(\delta\) is a small and positive parameter). The main goal of this paper is to prove the following statement: ``Let \(\sigma\in(\frac 1 2, 1)\) and \(A\subset [1,2]\) be a \((\delta;\sigma)\)-set with measure \(|A|=\delta^{1-\sigma}\). Then \[ |A+A|+|AA|\gtrapprox \delta^{-\frac{(1-\sigma)(2\sigma-1)}{6\sigma+4}}|A|." \] Here measure \(|\cdot|\) of a set is in the sense of \textit{N. H. Katz} and \textit{T. Tao} [New York J. Math. 7, 149--187 (2001; Zbl 0991.28006)]. A proof of the main theorem is explained. Several auxiliary statements are proved.
