Investigating the properties of certain Rényi and Tsallis entropies, the reviewer conjectured in [``Special functions associated with positive linear operators'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1409.1015}] that the sum \[ F_n(x):=\displaystyle\sum_{k=0}^n \left[\frac{n}{k}x^k(1-x)^{n-k}\right]^2, x \in [0,1], n=0,1,2,\dots \] of the squared fundamental Bernstein polynomials is a logarithmically convex function. He gave a proof in [the reviewer, Result. Math. 73, No. 3, Paper No. 105, 5 p. (2018; Zbl 1448.94118); Result. Math. 74, No. 4, Paper No. 154, 9 p. (2019; Zbl 1429.26016)]. The paper under review contains a new, simpler proof, based on an integral representation of \(F_n(x)\) and a clever use of Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. Moreover, the author proves that \(F_n\) is completely monotonic on \([0, 1/2]\) and absolutely monotonic on \([1/2, 1]\).
