In this paper the authors analyze well-posedness and exponential stability of a viscoelastic wave equation with time varying delay and standard frictional damping. A Galerkin argument is used in order to give existence and uniqueness of a global solution while multiplier techniques and perturbed energy functionals are employed to give an exponential stability estimate. The authors claim to prove their results under relaxed assumptions with respect related previous literature. Actually, the assumptions on the time delay function are not adequate (cf. the Erratum [the first author, ``An Erratum on `Stability and dynamics of a weak viscoelastic system with memory and nonlinear time-varying delay''', Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. (2021; \url{doi:10.3934/dcds.2021161})]).
