The author considers the second-order Hamiltonian system \[ \ddot {x}(t) + B_1(t)(x(t)) + V'(t, x(t)) = 0 \] with periodic conditions \[ x(0)-x(1)=0=\dot{x}(0)-\dot{x}(1). \] He generalizes findings of \textit{J. Pipan} and \textit{M. Schechter} [J. Differ. Equ. 257, 351--372 (2014; Zbl 1331.37085)]. In particular, an index theory result is used [\textit{Y. Dong}, Calc. Var. 38, 75--109 (2010; Zbl 1195.47036)]. The existence of periodic solutions for the above problem is proved and some multiplicity results are given.
