In the theory of linear operator ideals, we say that a normed ideal \(\mathcal{I}\) is injective if \(T\in \mathcal{I}(E;F)\) whenever \(T\in \mathcal{L}(E;F)\) and \(j: F \to G\) is a metric injection such that \(j\circ T \in \mathcal{I}(E;G)\) and, in this case, \(\|T\|_\mathcal{I}= \|j \circ T\|_\mathcal{I}\). Here, \(E, F\) and \(G\) are Banach spaces. This concept is transposed to the polynomial context as follows: a normed polynomial ideal \(\mathcal{Q}\) is injective if \(P\in \mathcal{Q}(^mE;F)\) whenever \(P\in \mathcal{P}(^mE;F)\) and \(j: F \to G\) is a metric injection such that \(j\circ P \in \mathcal{Q}(^mE;G)\) and, in this case, \(\|P\|_\mathcal{Q}= \|j \circ P\|_\mathcal{Q}\). Injective linear ideals are characterized by a domination property. Namely, an operator ideal \(\mathcal{I}\) is injective if and only if, given operators \(u \in \mathcal{I}(E;F)\) and \(v \in \mathcal{L}(E; G)\) such that \(\|v(x)\| \le C \|u(x)\|\) for every \(x \in E\) and some constant \(C \ge 0\), then \(v \in \mathcal{I}(E; G)\). Of course, this domination property can be literally transposed to the polynomial context and an immediate question arises: does this domination property provide a characterization for polynomial ideals? The authors show the negative answer to this question by means of a counterexample and present a weak domination property that, in fact, characterizes polynomial ideals. Among several applications of their interesting results, they establish a formula for composition polynomial ideals and characterize polynomial duals related to certain linear ideals, such as the ideal of \(p\)-compact operators.
