There exists a large class of gravitational field equations with an arbitrarily high order of the variational derivatives involved. The limits of such theories are called nonlocal gravity models. Another way to get such gravity models is to apply a nonlinear function to the D'Alembert-operator as essential ingredient of the gravitational Lagrangian. For one special class of these latter models the authors of the present paper deduce some cosmological solutions and discuss their astrophysical relevance, e.g. for the relation to dark matter.
