Let \(X\) be a linear space over the field of real or complex numbers and let \(\{T_h : h \geq 0\}\) be a one-parameter semigroup of linear operators \(T_h : X \to X\), \(h \geq 0\). The authors investigate the modulus of continuity of the element \(f \in X\) of order \(\alpha > 0\) generated by the semigroup \(T_h\): \[ \omega_\alpha (f,t) := \sup\limits_{h\in[0, t]} \|(I - T_h)^\alpha f\|, \ t \geq 0. \] The main result of the paper under review is the following inequality \[ 2\omega_\alpha(f,nt) \leq \omega_\alpha(f,(n+1)t)+\omega_\alpha(f,(n-1)t)+ C_n\omega_\alpha(f,t),\ t > 0, \] where \(C_n\) is a constant that depends only on \(\alpha\) and \(n\) and, moreover, \(C_n = O(n^{\alpha-3/2)}\), \(n\to\infty\). This inequality yields a generalization to the case of non-integer values of \(\alpha\) of the well-known assertion that there is an \(\alpha\)-majorant, which is not a modulus of continuity of order \(\alpha\) generated by a semigroup of operators.
