The authors consider the Dirichlet Laplacian in an infinite two-dimensional strip with perforation by small holes along periodically distributed transversal strings. The strip is introduced as \(\Pi=\mathbb{R}\times (0,H)\) and the perforation is made by family of holes \[ \omega^\varepsilon(j,k)=\big\{x:\, \varepsilon^{-1}(x_1-j,x_2-\varepsilon k H)\in \omega\big\},\qquad j\in\mathbb{Z},\qquad k=0,\ldots,N-1, \] where \(\omega\) is a fixed compact domain with an infinitely differentiable boundary, \(\varepsilon:=1/N\) is a small parameter, and \(N\) is a large natural number. These holes are distributed along a periodic system of the segments transversal to the strip \(\Pi\). These segments are \(\{x:\, x_1=j,\, x_2\in(0,H)\}\), \(j\in\mathbb{Z}\). The considered operator is periodic and the main object of the study are the band functions of the operator. The main result of the papers are two-terms asymptotic formulae for the end-points of the spectral bands written in terms of the small parameter \(\varepsilon\). In particular, it is shown that the spectrum of the considered operator contains a large number of short bands of length \(O(\varepsilon)\), which alternate with gaps of finite lengths.
