In the paper under review, the authors study quantitative homogenization of second-order parabolic systems with periodic coefficients, varying rapidly in space and time in different scales. Namely, the authors study the parabolic operator \(\partial_t+\mathcal{L}_\epsilon\), in \(\mathbb{R}^{d+1}\), where \(\epsilon>0\), and \(\mathcal{L}_\epsilon\) is introduced by setting \[ \mathcal{L}_\epsilon\equiv -\mathrm{div}\Big(A(x,/\epsilon,t/\epsilon^k)\nabla\Big)\, , \] where \(0< k <\infty\) and the coefficient tensor \(A=A(y,s)\) is real, bounded measurable, satisfies an ellipticity condition, and is \(1\)-periodic in \((y,s)\). The authors obtain large-scale interior and boundary Lipschitz estimates and results on the rate of convergence in \(L^2(\Omega_T)\) for the initial-Dirichlet problem \[ (\partial_t+\mathcal{L}_\epsilon)u_\epsilon=F \text{ in } \Omega_T, \quad u_\epsilon = f \text{ on } \partial_p \Omega_T\, , \] where \(\Omega_T\equiv \Omega \times (0,T)\) and \(\partial_p \Omega_T\) is the parabolic boundary of \(\Omega_T\).
