The authors consider a classical theorem in the area of global inversion, stating that a local diffeomorphism on a compact set in \({\mathbb R}^n\) is a diffeomorphism if its restriction to the boundary of its domain is one-to-one. They remove the latter condition and obtain a new result in \({\mathbb R}^2\) when the boundary of the domain maps into an annular region.
