Summary: In [the second author et al., Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2015, Paper No. 185, 17 p. (2015; Zbl 1345.54049)], the authors introduced a new concept of modified contractive mappings, generalizing Ćirić, Chatterjea, Kannan, and Reich type contractions. They applied the condition \((\theta_4)\) (see page 3, Section 2 of the above paper). Later, in [ibid. 2016, Paper No. 62, 5 p. (2016; Zbl 1345.54050)], \textit{S. Jiang} et al. claimed that the results in [Zbl 1345.54049.] are not real generalizations. In this paper, by restricting the conditions of the control functions, we obtain a real generalization of the Banach contraction principle (BCP). At the end, we introduce a weakly JS-contractive condition generalizing the JS-contractive condition.
