This paper analysis the existence of weak and global solutions for a system of two equations with initial data in large function spaces. In particular, the problem under analysis couples two degenerate parabolic equations. One for a thin film equation of fourth order with another one for surfactant concentration as an advection-diffusion equation of second order. The authors also consider the system under the action of gravitational, capillary and van der Waals forces. In that sense, the analytic approach seems to be new and a good continuation of previous works for similar problems. The applications of this problem are very interesting and wide. From a mathematical point of view, most of the previous works used a regularization approach to deal with the degeneration of the equations. In particular the thin film equation. Here, the authors produce a nice implementation of classical methods, such as Galerkin approximation or Lyapunov stability, to arrive at their results.
