    The Author proves the existence of at least 8 solutions of the Neumann boundary value problem \[ \begin{cases} \, d \, u'' + h(x) u^{2}(1-u) = 0, & \text{ in }(-1,1), \\ \, 0 < u < 1, & \text{ in }(-1,1), \\ \, u'(-1) = u'(1) = 0, \end{cases} \] for \(d>0\) sufficiently small, where \(h\in\mathcal{C}^{1}([-1,1])\) is a symmetric weight function with \(\int_{-1}^{1}h(x)\,\mathrm{d}x<0\), and with two intervals \([-1,-z)\), \((z,1]\) of positivity separated by a sufficiently large interval \((-z,z)\) of negativity. The result is a counterexample to a conjecture by \textit{Y. Lou} and \textit{T. Nagylaki} [J. Differ. Equations 181, No. 2, 388--418 (2002; Zbl 1006.35046)].
